CAB Direct

CAB Direct is two abstracts databases:

  • CAB Abstracts: primarily a plant science, agriculture and environmental science resource, CAB Abstracts also covers biotechnology, microbiology, and human health. CAB Abstracts contains more than five million records from over 10,000 sources, including journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings.

  • Global Health: covers public health, health systems, nutrition and medical microbiology. Global Health contains over one million records from more than 5,000 sources.

Communication and Mass Media Complete (CMMC)

Compendex is a major interdisciplinary engineering database offering abstracts from 5,000 engineering journals, conference papers and  technical reports. Covers 175 disciplines and major specialities within these broad engineering areas: mechanical, civil, environmental, electrical, materials science, chemical, optics, solid state physics, control, and engineering management. Access to the database is through the Engineering Village interface.

Counseling and Psychotherapy Transcripts, Client Narratives, and Reference Works
A searchable collection containing real transcripts of therapy and counseling sessions and first-person narratives illuminating the experience of mental illness and its treatment, as well as reference works to contextualize the primary material. New material is added on a biweekly basis and, when complete, the database will contain more than 2,000 session transcripts, 40,000 pages of first-person accounts, and 25,000 pages of secondary reference material. The database currently includes approximately 12,500 pages of material, including about 1,800 pages of reference material, 5,700 pages of personal accounts, and 4,900 pages of session transcripts.

CrossFire

 

Crossfire is a chemical information resource, consisting of two databases:

  • Beilstein, which contains the complete Beilstein Database of organic chemical compounds, including detailed information from the ecotoxicology and pharmacological area.
  • Gmelin, which provides access to the most complete collection of structures, properties, and literature references in inorganic and organometallic chemistry.

EMBASE (Excerpta Medica), is the most comprehensive database in biomedicine and pharmacology and gives you access to the most up-to-date information about medical and drug-related subjects. Environment and Planning is a collection of four urban and regional planning journals. They focus on everything from the environment and nature through planning and policy to theory and design.

ERIC
The largest database in the world relating to education. The ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) database is a digital library sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the US Department of Education. Contains more than 1 million abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice.

ERIC International
ERIC International consists of two abstract databases which can be searched together or separately:
Australian Education Index: The Australian Education Index provides a sophisticated subscription database consisting of more than 130,000 documents relating to educational research, policy and practice. Coverage: 1979 to date
British Education Index: Information on education in the UK. The British Education Index provides information on research, policy and practice in education and training in the UK. Particular strengths include aspects of educational policy and administration, evaluation and assessment, technology and special educational needs. Coverage: 1975 to date

ESDU (Engineering Sciences Data Unit)
UPDATE OCT 2009: DCU's access to ESDU (Engineering Sciences Data Unit) will end from October 31, 2009. Our access has been funded by IReL and, regrettably, IReL is no longer in a position to fund this resource.

Provides validated, up-to-date engineering data to modern design engineers and teachers covering 6 engineering industries in 23 Series. Subjects covered include: aerospace, mechanical, process and structural engineering.
NOTE: ESDU contains Java-based interactive graphs and programs. To run these:
