Collection Development Policy
The library has
recently produced a
collection
development policy. The document was
presented to library committee on 24
March 2004. The library’s collections
are strategically developed to support
the teaching, learning and research
information needs of the university
community. Increasingly library
information is held in electronic
format. The term ‘collections’ as used
in the document refers to print material
held in the library and also electronic
resources to which the library
subscribes. The policy was developed to:
- Foster an
understanding among the DCU community
as to how our collections are
developed, and to articulate the
rationale behind the library’s
collection development strategy.
- Provide the
context in which the library operates
in terms of meeting the challenges of
a modern and complex information
environment.
- Provide a
framework for the appropriate
selection, access and management of
library resources.
