We also subscribe to a number of UK and international titles for example: Le Monde, El Pais, Die Zeit, The Guardian, The Times and the Financial Times. Online Newspaper Collection
We have a number of full-text databases which allow DCU staff and students to search for newspaper articles from Irish and international newspapers.
You can access the most recent 12 months content of the Irish Times online via their website or through NexisUK from 1992. The Irish Times Digital Archive provides access to the archive of the Irish Times covering the period 1859 to about a year ago. Note: you must select ‘News: the historical Irish Times ’ from the drop down database menu. If you select ‘Proquest Newspapers’ you will only be searching the Irish Times from 1995 to date.
This database comprises digital image copies of a large number of Irish national and regional newspapers. Click here for a listing of the titles and their coverage. This database is a work in progress and as a result there are some gaps in coverage. Titles include the Irish Independent 1905-2001, Sunday Independent 1906-2002 and the Freeman’s Journal 1763-1924.
Newspapers on Microfilm
The Library holds The Irish Times on microfilm from 1965, the Irish Independent from 1999, the Sunday Tribune from 1983-1996 and the Financial Times from 1985-1990. A dedicated room is available beside the newspaper area on the first floor in which there are three microfiche/microfilm readers with laser printers attached. Printing cards may be purchased either from the wall dispensers located beside the photocopiers on the ground and first floors of the Library or from the Issue Desk on the ground floor.
